When I talked to Coach Nemo about his training program, I knew it was exactly what I had been searching for to help make our hitters more powerful. Hitters can take hundreds of swings in various drills that emphasize bat speed without getting fatigued. Fatigue often leads to mechanical break downs in the swing creating bad habits. I have found using the Nemo's bats on a daily basis my athletes have become more consistent in their swing mechanics and have developed more power and confidence.
We have used the Nemo bats religiously throughout our spring and fall seasons. There are all kinds of drills that can be done with the bats to create a faster, more powerful swing. We use them in dry swings, tee work, soft toss, front short toss and batting practice with our hitting streak and golf wiffle ball machines. Our players get hundreds of swings a day with emphasis on bat speed and I have really seen a huge improvement in power from all of our players, even our smaller ones. The Nemo bat has also helped us improve our bunting technique. The smaller bat surface has helped improve eye hand coordination as well as eye tracking abilities, especially when used with golf wiffle balls.
I would recommend using the Nemo Speed Hitting Program in any baseball or softball program no matter what the experience level of the team. It certainly has helped the Kent State softball team win the championship.

Tim Hill Head Softball Coach
Pacific University, Oregon

Entering his fifth season as the head coach of the Pacific softball program, Tim Hill has succeeded in rebuilding the Boxers into a competitive program within the Northwest Conference.
The 2006 campaign finished 23-15-1, their best record since the 1998 championship season, and finished fifth in a conference race that saw only 1.5 games between third and fifth place.
During the 2004 season, Hill accomplished one of the best turnarounds in recent Division III softball history. Taking over a program that won only nine games before his arrival, Hill took the Boxers that season to a 22-18 record, their first winning mark since 1998.
Coach Hill has over 25 years of success as a coach at the high school and ASA levels and has taken seven of these teams to the Oregon state championships and guided 14 teams to the ASA National Tournament.
In his 25 years coaching the Sun Supply ASA U-16 program, Hill led the team to a 1029-326 record. The 2002 team captured ASA U-16 National Championship with a record of 8 wins and 0 losses.
In 2005, Hill and Pacific softball assistant coach Paul Sabah were inducted into the Oregon Chapter of the American Softball Association Hall of Fame.
In regards to Nemo's Speed Hitting Program
Coach Hill states
"An area of our game that we had been looking to improve has been our power output. We had seen Nemo's products work for dozens of other programs, so we decided to give the Speed Training Bats a try.
We incorporated them into our preseason hitting and then continued using them throughout our season. The results were apparent early on as we began to hit with more power and more consistency.
For the 2007 season, we more than doubled our home run output from the previous season and ended up with the highest home run total in our five years at Pacific.
We believe Nemo's Training Bats helped to improve hand-eye coordination as well as bat speed and overall power. It is our intention to accelerate the use of this training tool in the upcoming season."

Head Coach: Holly Bruder
North Coast Athletic Conference Champions
2nd year in a row

Holly Bruder returns in 2006-07 for her sixth year as head coach of the Big Red Softball team. Over the past five season's under Bruder, the Big Red have won 115 games and have captured three North Coast Athletic Conference regular season championships. In 2006 the Big Red advanced to the Division III NCAA Championships for the third time in school history.
Holly states: "Nemo’s Speed Bat Training Program has changed the way we approach hitting at Denison University. When I started coaching at Denison six years ago, the softball team was entering its fifth season as a NCAA member and part of the NCAC conference. Prior to that, the softball team was simply a “club” sport. The team knew the fundamentals, and had the foundation to go somewhere. When I entered the scene, I wanted to take this program to the next level. Look past the conference championship and ahead to a regional championship and start competing against the best programs out there.
I graduated from a program which concentrated on defense which worked for us. Taking that philosophy and integrating it into the Denison softball program, I found one problem. Yes, we were holding opponents to 2 or 3 runs per game with our strong pitching and leading the league in defensive stats, but we were still loosing scoring only 1 to 2 runs ourselves. This all changed 3 years ago when I began using the Speed Bats by Nemo. We worked on hitting as much as we did defense but with a different mentality. We worked on getting our hands through the zone with power and precision. With the drills from the Nemo Video and confidence we brought to the plate, we started winning more games at the plate. We were still holding teams to 3 runs a game, but we started scoring 5 to 6 runs a game.
Taking this hitting approach into last spring 2006 season, Denison University softball program won the regular season NCAC (North Coast Athletic Conference) championship, hosted the NCAC tournament and won in the championship game in the bottom of the seventh inning by a walk off homerun. We continued our success and advanced to the Regional Championships!
We continue using the Nemo Speed Bat Training Program in our nontraditional season in the fall, in our pre-season prior to our spring training trip, and throughout the season! With this program, we look to win another conference title!

Coach Vaughnan states
As a coach you are always looking for an advantage or tool to help make your players and your team better. Four years ago I came across Coach Nemo and his speed training bats and thought that they would be a great addition to our program. So I ordered five speed bats and the instructional videos and we began to incorporate many of the drills and concepts into our program. Now four years later, we are still using the speed bats on a daily basis and believe that they are a vital part of our daily hitting routine. The speed bat has helped our players to increase their bat speed as well as improve their hand-eye coordination and visual tracking ability.
The past two seasons we have broken the school records for homeruns, runs scored, slugging percentage, and hits. I think that some of this success has to be attributed to Nemo and his great product. As next year approaches, we will be looking forward to experimenting with Coach Nemo's new product, the Multi-Hitting Tee."

"Increased bat speed, under loading, the vast number of swings and positive repetition was a nicely added hitting tool and concept to our program. Sharpening of one's hand eye coordination and awareness of the contact point are tools for offensive success.
Coach Nemo's training program incorporates all of the above through a high energy motivational hitting workout. It truly ties together 'fun' to the art of successful hitting.
Chemeketa Community College purchased 14 speed bats and experienced immediately success. This tool added excitement to hitting warm-ups, stations, the hitting cage and live swings. The repetition in swings paid dividends to our program. We out hit our opponents with our .314 batting average to their .193, and posted a .425 slugging percentage.
Nemo's speed training bat is a part of our daily routine. It is amazing to see the player's intensity and focus when working with their speed bats. They carry their speed bats with conviction knowing that it immediately provides them an advantage in every at bat. It definitely has helped with our bat speed and contact point for explosive hitting. What is truly exciting is that it has added to our confidence"

"We purchased a dozen Speed Training Bats and two power tubes from Coach Nemo in the winter. Our guys used them throughout the year, and we ended up hitting .325 as a team. That is the highest batting average for our team here at Willamette University in the 11 years that I have been Head Coach. I feel that by teaching the body to swing at a faster pace it will translate into better bat speed during the game. This will allow our hitters to wait and see the ball longer before pulling the trigger. This brought us a Conference Championship. ******"We are enjoying the heck out of our Nemo Speed Training Bats, and even have the baseball team borrowing a couple from us!!! I have noticed a definite increase not only in our bat speed, but in our intensity at the plate. Our players are gaining confidence at the plate because their hands are faster...they can easily turn on an inside pitch...but at the same time they are more patient...since their hands are quicker they are waiting longer and laying off of the bad pitches too!
It took a while to convince them that under-loading was a good thing (so many of them have been taught all their lives that a heavy bat will make them stronger) but they are seeing the results for themselves now. We like to hit for about an hour every day. That's a lot of swings with a regular bat and sometimes I used to see us come out flat or tired on game days. Now we are able to hit everyday but I still see that pop on game day. We can take hundreds of swings in a day to stay sharp and not be fatigued the next day!"

2006:
Sheilah Gulus
Ashland University, Ohio
Four GLIAC Championships.
Three times Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Champions.
Overall victories: 567-293 - 19 years

At every step in a 16-year coaching career, Gulas has proved to be a builder of programs. If you want a blueprint of how to run a college softball program, the first call should go to Gulas. Those blueprints work in turning teams into bluebloods. Her teams are annually included among the best in the country. That’s what she’s done at Ashland University.
Four times in the last six years, Gulas has led the Eagles to the NCAA Division II playoffs. Under Gulas, AU has won 30 or more games four times and 40 or more games twice. She has guided the Eagles to three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championships and four GLIAC regular season crowns.
Hitting has always been an important part of Coach Gulas’s program and practice routine. “ It is very important to practice the swing each day and to make the hitting practices a chance to develop and fine-tune the swing. We were looking for a way to increase bat speed and to help players make better adjustments to their swing during games. By using the Nemo program, we have found that bat speeds have increased for each of our athletes.” This is important not only for power, but bat speed helps the athletes time their swings better during each at bat. If a pitcher has a great change up, the hitter can wait on it and then explode through the ball. The longer the hitter can wait on the ball before swinging, the more adjustments they will be able to make during their at bat. These adjustments need to be natural and automatic and it is something that the batter needs to react to without thinking. That is why quality repetitions are important not only in the mechanics of the swing but also in the confidence of the batter.
Many of the Nemo drills are also conducive to helping the hitter make adjustments. When working on hitting the inside and or outside pitch, the batter can’t get in a routine where each swing is exactly the same. Many of the drills in Coach Nemo’s Instructional videos, Increase Your Bat Speed and Speed Circuit Training, help the batter work on hitting any ball up the middle. This can be done no matter how the speed or location of the pitch is thrown.
The Ashland University softball team has been using the Nemo Training Bats bat this fall and has already seen improvements in each athlete. “Not only is the bat speed of each athlete improving but, the players are much more confident in attacking the ball. It is possible to get more quality swings in each practice setting. “ The nice thing about the Nemo bat is that you can hit many different types of balls and therefore work on a small bat, small ball concept. This helps the batter work on tracking the ball, which will help with their vision training. After each swing, the batter gets reinforcement depending on how the ball leaves the bat. If contact is made on the sweet spot of the bat, the contact is very explosive. If the ball is not hit on the sweet spot, the athlete can make an adjustment on the next swing. This helps the athlete remain focused during her practice swings.
Ashland University also hosts many camps and clinics and the Nemo bat will be used with softball players of all ages. The younger players will get great benefit by starting with the speed bat at an early age. This way they will be able to increase their bat speed and get many quality repetitions to start putting the swing into muscle memory. Many times the younger players are swinging bats that are too heavy to start with and the Nemo bat will help the younger athlete learn and practice the correct swing.
“I am looking very forward to the start of our season to see the difference that the Nemo Bat training program has given our student athletes. Nemo bats will be part of our training program each and every day between now and the quest for another Conference Championship.”
Coach Nemo’s Training Program is quickly becoming a nationally accepted training tool. It is growing in popularity with proven, positive results from team and individual usage at all age levels.

Second-year head coach Vashion Johnson's squad tied or established school records in 20 different categories this spring en route to a 24-19 final record which included a single season record of 24 wins.
Coach Johnson States: " The Speed Training Bat has been instrumental in molding the aggressive and attacking style of Slippery Rock University Softball. This tool allows us to take over 300 quality cuts every practice without losing form. It aids in muscle memory, under loading, and attacking with the barrel. Our players have broken over 30 records and hit over 50 home runs in the last 2 years." All thanks to Nemo!”

Coach Garris States:
"Since reading an article by Jerry Stitt and Mike Candrea, in 1996, I have believed in underloading. As everyone knows, Coach Candrea is the foremost world wide authority on hitting in softball. If he says you should do it, then you can take that advice to the bank.
After using several homemade versions of Underloaders, I met Coach Nemo and instantly saw that his speed bat meets every underloading use imaginable. What makes this product so great is that it is a real bat with a true sweet spot. When we use the Decker BPF 7.5 training balls, cork balls or golf size whiffles, we can see and hear when the ball has been hit on the nose. All the while we are building bat speed, because we are using an Underloader. Furthermore, it is perfectly weighted so our players get the most out of each of their swings. As Coach Candrea so often says, it is more important to take quality cuts to build proper techniques and the Nemo speed bat gives us the very best way to do that everytime!"
Coach Garris served as the head coach at Henderson State University (2001-2003). Sam Houston State University (1998-2001) and Delta State University (1993-1998).
While at Delta State, he was named the Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year in 1997 and his team won the West Division championship in 1996, 1997 and 1998. In 2001, at Sam Houston State, he coached the team to its first 20-win season in five years.

Steve Rianda Head Softball Coach
Notre Dame de Namur University
Belmont, California

Coach Rianda writes
"The Speed Training Bats are great! After using broom handles, baseball bats and anything else I could grab, I was excited to find Nemo's Bats.
The feel, dimensions and training tapes were perfect for our training. We have been able to not only get more swings in, but more quality swings throughout practice.
The training tape gave us a good practice routine and the ability to keep the girls attention with the variety of drills used with the bats.
I know our bat speed has increased by the results and the players feel more confident at the plate. When you believe you can hit anything and at any speed, half the battle has been fought. This has helped us stay on top of rise ball, turn on the screwball and they can wait on the change-up with confidence.
Without changing approaches or bat angles, we had six girls hit balls out of the park for the first time in their college career! I attribute that to the Nemo Speed Training Bats."
Thanks Coach Nemo! Keep up the good work and we'll keep hitting!

"8 National Tournament Appearances"
My girls can "swing it" pretty good to start with. We've only been using the Nemo's Speed Hitting Bat two weeks and diligently following the program. I recorded their batspeed before we started and retest it every week. After only two weeks I see measurable improvement in all players, some more than others, depending on their strength and technique. Not only has their raw bat speed increased but more importantly to me, is that their reaction time has increased also. Now, they can wait longer to start their swing which gives them a better chance of judging pitch speed, spin, etc. The girls were a little hesitant at first to swing these "little bats". But now, they actually come on their own and swing the Nemo speed bats because they can see the difference it makes in their performance.
It will be the end of the month before they have achieved their 10,000 swings and we have some definitive numbers on bat speed improvement but I guarantee that the improvement will be equal to that advertised. I am a "true believer" in rotational swing mechanics and an added plus to the speedbat training is that the bats are light enough so that the players can actually work on the proper techniques of generating bat speed from their swing instead of just relying on their hands . They can soft toss for an hour with the speedbat and not get into poor mechanics because of bat weight.
The Nemo's bat will not make a "hitter" out of a "nonhitter" but it definitely will increase the batspeed of everyone that uses it and follows the program. An added benefit to speed bat use is that Coach Nemo and his staff are very helpful in answering any questions you might have. I rate the entire program and organization A PLUS. Now if we could only do something to increase a pitcher's speed by 5 mph.

The 18U Heartbreakers Red put a lot of effort into improving our hitting in the off-season and during the season. All of the players were given Nemo's Speed Hitting bat and our goal was to take 10,000 swings by the start of our season. Nemo's bat is great for working on underloading hitting drills. Beginning in January, the players swung the bat about 5 days a week and about 300 swings a day. The Heartbreakers would like to thank Nemo for his great product and support during the 2001 season.

As a travel team coach, we depend on our players doing a lot of work on their own. Nemo's Speed Bat is a great way for players to get the repetitions that they need and the Speed Bat drills are a proven way to increase bat speed. It's a great product at a reasonable price.
UPDATE: Coach Nemo I just wanted to say 'thanks' for all you've done for me and my team this season. It seems like yesterday when we ordered a full supply of Nemo Bats for our team to swing in the off season. They really made a difference and I wouldn't be surprised if our entire organization uses them this year.
At our coaches meeting on Monday night, my coaching staff and I were talking about our season and remarked that we didn't face one pitcher all year that over-matched us with speed....I know that Nemo's Hitting Program made the difference in that area.

Dave Blumenthal - Head Coach

Coach Nemo:
I have attached a picture of our team with your product. We have been using this for 4 weeks now, with only two practices a week, and double headers on the weekends. I have seen a drastic increase in our hitting success. Our team batting average has increased from .299 to .387 in this time, and our slugging percentage has increased from .450 to .647. In one recent game, which we won 14-4, the team had 4 triples and 3 doubles, which is much more than we had ever had in one game. I can see the increase in speed week to week, and we have not really even tapped into the drills on the tape. (Imagine what will happen then!)UPDATE: Coach Nemo the girls are enjoying the success that they are seeing at the plate. I have noticed that our strike outs per game have gone way down, now only averaging l.5 per seven innings ( this is down from about five ). We are truly impressed and grateful to be using this product.
UPDATE: This is Coach Blumenthal again, with the Heartbreakers out of Maryland. As a new season dawns, so do the requirements for Nemo's speed bats. (We loved using them last year, and have seen a remarkable difference in our players hitting. As I will still be coaching a 14U team this year, as well as assisting Terry Burdette on his 18U team, I just wanted to make sure to let you know what an excellent product this is.)
Here is an update from last season:
Our teams overall batting average increased from .235 to .343 , and our slugging percentage went from .287 to .426 since using your product. Bear in mind that this was over the course of an entire year, and we all know how team slumps can affect this. However, there has been a dramatic increase in both areas. From the original 13 players that I had last year, 6 of them will be moving up to either the 18U or 16U, age groups for the coming season, and 2 of the players will be jumping from 14U to 18U, and the remaining 4 to 16U. I am quite sure that this is due in part to Nemo's bats.

Matthew Salmons - Cutler City, Oregon 14 years old.
Nemo's Speed Bat Training Program was a key factor to my success on the Taft High School baseball team. In less than a year I have seen major improvements in my bat speed and power to hit the long ball .This improvement enabled me to win a starting position on the varsity baseball team as a 14 year old freshman. I became the youngest ball player ever at Taft to hit a home run in a varsity baseball game. Nemo's Speed Bat Training Program gave me the confidence and the ability to compete at a higher level ......... My overall batting average is .486 with 5 homeruns.
His sophomore season at the high school level, Matthew was recognized for his talents by being selected for the Val-Co league All-Star team.

Matthew Salmons at 15 years old
On November 1st, 2001, Matt was informed he had made a National All-Star Team, sponsored by Coast-To -Coast Athletics to play in the annual 2002 Gold Coast Baseball Tournament in Sydney, Australia. He was one of four out of 150 players attending the tryouts to make it on the team.
UPDATE: Baseball takes Matt Salmons to Australia. "The 15 year old boy traveled with an organization known as Coast to Coast Amateur Athletics. The young player from Lincoln County led his squad to a 6-1 record and the tournament title by hitting an outrageous .625 with an on base percentage of .735. Salmons had six doubles and three walks in his final 10 at bats. He was also second on the team with 13 runs batted in".
UPDate: Matt completed his senior year at Taft High School with fantastic results....1st team all Val/Co League and a batting ave of .621 with 14 home runs. Matt will be playing for Concordia College this coming season.
A note from Matthew's parents: Dr. Jane and Dr. Scott Salmons
We watched our son go through Nemo's Speed Bat Training Program, and saw his confidence grow as he increased his bat speed and power. We highly endorse this program. If you are hesitant about purchasing a Nemo's Speed Bat and Video, we assure you if they work at it, the program will bring positive results.
